Top Three Reasons Why You Should Value Your Profession

I know a lot of people are not fully satisfied with whatever they are doing now.

I was forced to make this post because I noticed a lot of people around showing lack of interest in a profession they walked into themselves with their eyes wide open!

If they had been pushed or induced into it, then I will understand their plight. But they were not under any influence of alcohol when they took it up, they were even the ones who went out in search of it. Now they have it but don't value it.

What's your profession?

Your profession is whatever you are engaged in now.

It can be a trade, craft or any occupation you involve yourself. You may be in it for pleasure or gain. Whatever it is, its your profession and should be valued by you the professional.
Having a profession is everyone's dream but valuing it and doing what is expected is something some people are not yet dreaming of.
If you are not satisfied with your profession, it is advised you switch to another. It may not be easy and that is why you just have to put all your efforts and value it.

The problem of nonchalance is mostly found in workers who have employers.
Self-employed/entrepreneurs hardly show little regard for their profession because they know its their main source of income which they must carry themselves.

Here are the top three reasons why you should value your own profession:

1. You never know who is watching:
Some people work carelessly even when they are working under an employer.
They don't do what's expected yet they complain their employer is not giving them a raise or promoting them!
If someone who is diligent and values his work is noticed by an employer; he is likely to get a raise or promotion even if he hasn't worked for long!
I see why some people complain that a new worker was promoted instead of them who has been there for long!
What do you think is the reason?
The employer must have noticed the new guy's hard work and decided to promote him instead of the old guy who has not made much effort to show his zeal.

Be passionate about your profession and try not to belittle it no matter what it is! A cleaner in a company may be well off than a marketer in the same company because of the passion he shows when doing what he is supposed to.

2. You never know who is learning from you:
You may be an old worker in the company and yet you are taking it like its a joke!
There may be a newly employed worker who may be trying to make you his mentor because he sees you as an old and experienced worker in the field.
If you go on taking your profession like a joke and working carelessly; you may unconsciously be training someone who will definitely be worse than you.
If Elijah had shown carelessness in doing what he was sent to do, Elisha would have felt its the usual way of doing things and he may not have been one of the most mentioned Prophets back then.

3. You never know who is benefiting from your efforts:
When you take up a profession; its not because you need one, its because you want to be part of the team improving or creating a brighter future for others coming after you.
Let's take Onitsha-Asaba bridge for instance.
If some or all of the workers had played with the job of building the bridge, you and I may not cross that bridge today smiling!
The bridge would have turn out to be a bad one which would put a lot of people in danger.

So why not value what you are doing now so others (and your kids too) will benefit from it.

For those who don't value their profession; please start learning to do that now.

If you can't pretend to love it then flee and take something you would value and be comfortable with.

Now the question is, do you value your profession?
